Place in the larger work: The fourth song of five in the song cycle called "Songs for Wendy" which includes 1. "The Fly" (William Blake); 2. "A Centipede" (Anonymous); 3. "On the Grasshopper and Cricket" (John Keats); 4. "The Caterpillar" (Christina G. Rossetti); 5. "Was Worm" (May Swenson).
Notes about the text: Lines 5 and 6 of the poem were not included in the song. The word "May" has been added in the beginning of line 7 of the poem. Line 8 of the poem, "Hovering bird of prey pass by you" has been replaced in the lyrics with "May the little birds pass by you."
