Notes: Carman, Gaeddert, Resch and Myers (926) describe the voice and piano for the cycle as follows: "Voice: high tessitura; many different melodic motives; many phrases above the staff; much wordless coloratura; singer leaves stage slowly while singing 'oo' and 'ah' in last song; final phrases sung offstage; ends on D6". Piano: almost constant motion, usually in 8ths; many accidentals; broken-chord patterns; rolled chords; arpeggiation; fast tempos."
