The occupation of New Caledonia by American
forces has given rise to the following newspaper
comment:- the ... says "... action has been imposed
upon us by military necessity but it has also been a
result of our policy. We wish to protect the integrity
of the French empire wherever it is menaced. Our only
aim is to maintain the independence of French territory
everywhere". The article adds:- " ... ... that American
troops will be sent to the other French islands in the
Pacific which are necessary to our military strategy".
The article by ... says:- "The Free French in London
say that they are very ... for the left-handed recog-
nition which has been granted to them in the Pacific,
and in conclusion, ... to the de Gaullists ... ... .
Because everything is not granted ... the Free French
