- 1902 – Founded at 1 Observatory Crescent, Ottawa, ON. Construction begins on the observatory building. (Brooks, “The Dominion Observatory’s Historic Telescope, part 2”)

- 1905 – The observatory building is opened on April 17, 1905. “The Observatory became the primary reference point for anyone measuring time and geographical locations… in Canada.” The building has a machine shop on the basement level, containing a large lathe, milling machine, and a bench lathe. These are later moved to a separate building. (Brooks, “The Dominion Observatory’s Historic Telescope, part 2”; Hodgson, The Heavens Above: 25–27)
