Description

“Two” was a Gay magazine that had ran in Toronto from 1964 to 1966. It had covered many aspects of queer life in Toronto, with it being published in Scarborough. The magazines had typically featured pictures of naked men in sections called “Physiques” (with the phallic region being blacked out in marker), articles, and information about nightlife scenes. This particular volume contains information about The Music Room, which was a prominent queer music venue in Scarborough where “female impersonators” (what would now be known as drag queens today) performed. It was advertised as being a place where you can dance all night long with fellow homosexuals. This magazine showcases how Queer people found community through magazines, and allowed for Queer people to have safe spaces during a time when it was not safe to be Queer.
