Title

Claire Prieto

Description

Claire Prieto is one of the four pioneering Black directors of Canada. Her first notable piece was Some Black Woman (1975) working with Roger McTair. She immigrated from Trinidad to Canada where she began pursuing her directing career and eventually became one of the most notable names in the Black Canadian film scene. Some of her other works include Older Stronger Wiser (1989). She is known as one of the pioneering artists because of her time in the film scenes, but also because she helped create the BFVN being the founding president and helped support other Black artists in the industry.
