Dublin Core
Title
Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Ladies Auxiliary Toronto Pullman Division
Description
Photograph taken by an unknown person in 1940 (according to Museum of Toronto). Ten women are in the photo: Mrs. Glinda Olive Dawthins; Mrs. Marion Dewby; Mrs. Lila Williams; Mrs. Victoria Knight; Mrs. Margrove Brooks-Lewsey; Mrs. Ella Crowley; Mrs. Reba Fleming; Mrs. Hilda Garrington; Mrs. Ethel Winn; Mrs. Rose Taylor. These women were members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Sleeping Car porters, the unit for wives of members of the BSCP. They had their own meetings and conventions, apart from those of their husbands, and discussed important issues. Although their activism isn’t as well-known as that of their husbands, the Ladies’ Auxiliary made strides behind the scenes for workers’ rights.
