Title
Brotherhood Sleeping Car Porters CPR Toronto Division and Ladies Auxiliary Tenth Anniversary Dance Evening, 1952
Description
A poster advertising the Tenth Anniversary Dance hosted by the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car porters and their Ladies’ Auxiliary. It was set to take place on October 30, 1952, at 9:00 PM, hosted in the Hungarian Hall in Toronto. This demonstrates the connection Black folk had with other minority communities, in this case with Hungarian immigrants. The dance, which took place a day before Halloween, included a costume contest with a prize. Tickets cost $1.25 per person, which is equivalent to $14.65 Canadian in 2025 (Bank of Canada Inflation Calculator). Not only did the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters work on the union, but they had community events as well. Dances such as these fostered community engagement and connection.
