“The Ashburton Treaty and the Slave Code.”
Dublin Core
Title
“The Ashburton Treaty and the Slave Code.”
Description
An 1860 editorial discussing the John Anderson extradition case in relation to the Ashburton Treaty and the slave code of the Southern States. The article argues that surrendering fugitives like Anderson (referred to here as “the slave Jones”) would turn Canada into hunting ground for slave-catchers and undermine Canadian justice and sovereignty.
