Black composer and conductor Quinn Mason composed his "Sonata" for solo guitar in 2018.
As described on the composer's website, the "Sonata for solo guitar" in three movements, written for Tom Clippinger, "explores the lyricism of the classical guitar as a solo instrument, while also focusing on technical aspects of playing. The result is a composition challenging for the player and enjoyable for the audience."
The work has three movements:
1. Tom Clippinger
2. Phil Goldenberg
3. Silviu Ciulei
The work was premiered virtually on 4 July 2020.
