Description
This excerpt from Dusk shows the opening measures and performance notes for the movement. In the performance note below, Schafer indicates that before the piece begins, the performers should test the environment in which they're playing in by mimicking sounds associated with nature: "In the beginning, the instrumentalists indulge in some improvised sound-making (throwing stones across the water, calling to each other, perhaps playing some long notes to test the echo, etc) This fades under the beginning of the piece".
