Marie’s Birthday AE 34 Wt. 142 lbs
Clear and bright the sun rose this morning to wake in the festive day. The boys and I got up early to make the decorations which we had prepared. It is [two] years since I was at home on this anniversary and its maybe many again ere I will have the pleasure again, hence the more do I enjoy + appreciate the opportunity.
At 8 o’clock Marie arose and was greeted upon entering the dining room with music and fou happy beaming faces, and received from us our hearty congratulations. The room was decorated with garland wreaths + flowers. The table was similarly treated. On it was Max’s gift – a drawing, Julius’ also a drawing, Oskar’s a bouget, Mrs. W’s a boo, and from me a complete set of Dickens’ books, which I knew she desired to have. Gretel the servant had contributed the customary [Geburtsky Prezel].
Augusta had sent a vase of “[laua]” work – her own make. All were happy. [_______] room Dorothea, Dora [York____], baby + Dave arrived. In the afternoon [Patten] worker Augusta + all the preceding were with us “[Zhen Kaffee]” when the time flitted with lively chatting. The Bulines remained with us for tea, then returned save Dora who remained with us.
