At 8-30 AM, we arrived at North Bay on Lake Nipissing where we strike the main line of the CPR in which we continue our route. A three hours delay gave us ample time to view the village. It is prettily [situated] on the lake, the surrounding country is wooded [_______] with birch spruce + poplar, and the soil is sandy hence not well adapted for agriculture. The potatoes looked very green + were in bloom. The place awaits [_____] solely to the railway and is the end of a division. It is becoming a favorite resort for tourists as canoeing, boating + fishing are good here. Soon after noon we are off again, passing thru’ an uninviting country of little value unless it be for minerals, and even when these are abundant tho’ a lack of capital + enterprise they fail to be developed. Among our passengers in the trip are W. Patterson MP for Braul + Colin Rankin Chief factor H.B.co at [Mattawa].
