This Day in June (written by Gayle E. Pitman and illustrated by Kristyna Litten) is an educational explosion of colour that, through the use of vivid illustrations and simple words, functions as an introductory text for children on Pride parades and the themes and people that they might see at 2SLGBTQ1A+ events. It has been banned and challenged ever since it was first published in 2014 as there are those who believe the book is “peddling” the 2SLGBTQIA+ agenda and forcing queer sexualities onto children by exposing them to these concepts.
