Moriarty was raised in Sydney, Australia with her four sisters and one brother. She studied English and Law. She did her Masters in Law at Yale and her PhD in Law at Cambridge. She returned to Sydney after her studies to practice law and begin her writing career. Once her writing career took off, she became a full-time author. Her sisters Liane Moriarty and Nicole Moriarty are also successful writers.
