Support Team

Anita Tenasco, Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation

Anita Tenasco is Anishinabe Algonquin and was born and raised in the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community (an Algonquin community located 2 hours north of Ottawa, Ontario). Sheis a djo djo (mother), kokomis (grandmother) and the child of a Residential School survivor and Indian Day School survivor.  She has dedicated her career to First Nations education and has served the Kitigan Zibi community for the past 26 years in a variety of capacities.  She is currently the Director of Education for Kitigan Zibi and is a firm believer in First Nations Control of First Nations Education.  Anita Tenasco is a proud graduate of the Kitigan Zibi High School, Heritage College and the University of Ottawa. Ms. Tenasco helped to initiate and develop the History in Canada. Perspectives des Premiers Peuples / History in Canada. First People Perspectives. Since its merging of the latter with First Peoples Confluence (see history), she continues to guide the various stakeholders and contributes with the members of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation Educational and Cultural Centre and their partners to make First Peoples' history known.

Eddy Malenfant, Production Manitu inc.

As representative of Production Manitu inc., a contributor to this project, Eddy Malenfant is a development consultant for the project, and contributes to the layout and expansion of the project's working guide. His dedication and generosity to the project are indispensable.

Diane Le May, Cégep de l’Outaouais

Diane Le May is a historian. She has worked as a teacher and researcher at the Cégep de l’Outaouais for over 30 years and holds a master’s in history from the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include the relations between First Peoples and non-native peoples. From her beginnings in teaching, she has sought to raise knowledge of First Peoples by developing stages de formation (training internships) in Cree and Inuit communities in Nunavik, organizing and taking part in symposiums and working with members of Indigenous communities based on unceded Anishinabe territory to develop exhibitions and teaching material for college-level disciplines. Ms. Le May, along with Ms. Tenasco, established the project History in Canada. Perspectives des Premiers Peuples / History in Canada. First People Perspectives. Since the merging of the latter with Confluence Premiers Peuples (see history), she continues to ensure the coordination between the various participants, contributes to the development of the website and participates in the elaboration of educational resources.

Roxanne Lafleur, Université of Ottawa Library

Roxanne Lafleur is the Digital Humanities Support Specialist, Research Support (Arts and Special Collections). She provides support and training to Omeka. She has developed the project guide, both for contributions and for the cataloguing rules for the archive, in consultation with members of the project team. Her expertise in Omeka and cataloguing is invaluable to this project.

The project team is grateful to the University of Ottawa Library for generously providing resources, expertise and technical support, including the Omeka installation.
