No. 10606
Reference to Section 1 of your telegram No. 1150 of 12 February 1944, concerning the NAI DINN disaster.
The experts appointed by the Government-General and the Commissioner of Damages declare the value of the wrecked ship. They estimate the weight of the recoverable metal parts at 500 tons of machinery and 3500 tons from the hull, and state that 1000 tons must be abandoned at the bottom of the sea.
As for the wrecking work, it cannot be done right now because of air-raids and a local lack of tools, but it can be undertaken after the war. It will then be possible at the time to fix the amount of the (7 recovery-sale 7) and the expenses of the wrecking work, evaluation of which is not possible for the time being.
I point out that we have in storage some articles salvaged from the ship the abandonment of which is in process. May I urgently request you to sell these articles, because of the difficulty of keeping them in storage and because of expenses and risks of every kind.
