DECOUX is asked to confirm the date on which formal notice of abandonment of the VAN VOLLENHOVER, as a total loss, was given to the ASSURANCES DE GUERRE, since a request for abandonment from the owners and the Governor-General is not sufficient. This is the first time that this ruling has been invoked for ship sinkings.
