- Once negotiations had been started
(we were assured ?) that then our guarantee of security would be renewed and the essential independence of the administration preserved. There is a close analogy between the situation in Indo-China and that in Palestine and Syria. France has been subjected in (Europe also ?) to an ignominious trampling upon her rights. Things reached this point in the east because of the disparity between our forces ----- and those of Japan.
Alone in suffering the consequences of these defeats, our country is still alone, and has suffered hopelessly with the extension of her difficulties for the past month.
