So as to permit the ambassador at Washington to satisfy the wishes of the American authorities and to facilitate thereby the renewal of legal rights to France, I would beg of you to accede immediately to the request which will be presented to you by the consul at New York concerning the payment in gold and dollars for the goods which you sold on July 31.

Also, would you please let me know the total of your diplomatic expenses and — for the month of July in the country of your residence; a similar request will be made each month.

I would draw your attention to the fact that you forgot to mention ————.
