The Ashley Turner fonds

The digitization process was done for two VHS tapes from the Ashley Turner fonds, "acquired from Ashley Turner in 1997 (1997-4) and 2001(2001-4)" (ARCS Atom Information). Ashley Turner is a human rights activist, an author, the founder and director of JEWELS (Justice, Equality, and Equity for Women Everywhere, Legally, Lawlessly, and Shamelessly).

The fonds cover much of JEWELS' and Ashley Turner's work records. Many of the records were owned by Lynn Hamilton, who is featured in the two VHS tapes we digitized.

The VHS tapes digitized during our project are Parts 1 and 2 of a women's meeting (possibly JEWELS) led by Caroline Ford on May 12th 1992. The two tapes cover the same meeting, but are held on separate tapes due to the tapes' recording time limits. Topics of the meeting include an introduction to HIV/AIDS, transmission issues, prevention, sexuality and violence, reproductive issues, medical attitudes, and symptomatology of HIV/AIDS specific to women. Participants include discussion leader Caroline Ford, speaker Mary [Faught], camera operator Irene [Xautal], Lynn Hamilton, Kathleen, [Joanne], [Marilyn], [Vally], and an unnamed woman.
