Description

This geographic map, featured on page 1 of Le Beau’s work entitled Avantures du Sᴿ. C. Le Beau, avocat en parlement, ou voyage curieux et nouveau, parmi les Sauvages de l’Amérique Septentrionale, shows a dotted line representing Le Beau’s journey through New-France aboard a ship called “L’Éléphant.” The map demonstrates that the toponym “Canada” refers to a vast region with unclear borders. Also shown are two scales: the first scale's units of measurement are French leagues, and the second scale's units of measurement are German leagues. There are also longitude and latitude marks around the map’s border.
