Railway Porters
Description
Railway porters, such as F.R Blackburn, were known as conduits of culture, often coming into porting already educated and well-travelled. Their work took them through some of the busiest cultural corridors in North America. As they moved between cities, they carried with them the music they encountered, the stories they heard, and the information they picked up on their routes. Travelling across the tracks from one urban center to another, they brought fragments of these experiences with them into Montreal, sharing what they had seen and heard before departing again for the next stop.
