Her situation, as she described, was quite rare as she noticed that none of the Black queens around the city had that connection to their families. Her family's support means an incredible deal for her and she expressed great gratitude for how lucky she is. Back in British Guiana, Jackae shared how she would notice gay men around in her community, and feel how dangerous it would’ve been for her at the time to express herself like them. This interview segment also points out how dangerous it is for people who are not “out” even in places like Toronto, as most do not have the protection of their families to look out for them. In her own life, Jackae recalls arriving in the city and going to the gay bar, Chaps, in the Gay Village, and seeing Michelle Ross Chris Edwards performing, inspiring her to pursue drag herself, marking the importance of having welcoming and representative spaces.
