Fantasia On a Theme By Charlie Haden: For Turiya

Title

Fantasia On a Theme By Charlie Haden: For Turiya

Description

Black composer Freddie Bryant's "Fantasia on a Theme by Charlie Haden": 'For Turiya' was originally recorded in 1996.

As indicated in linernotes on the composer's website, "It is a through-composed piece using the theme from Charlie Haden’s beautiful For Turiya (dedicated to Alice Coltrane) as a starting point. As a “fantasia” it is a free form improvisation and does not stick to the form of Haden’s original as “variations” would in the classical tradition. It was transcribed by Karl Marino, one of my brilliant students from Berklee and now can be played as a “classical” piece without improvisation."
