The caricature was first published in Bengough's magazine 'Grip'. He states in the publication, "A Caricature History of Canadian Politics: Events from the Union of 1841": Hon. George Brown had undertaken a mission to Washington, on behalf of the Government, to secure a reciprocity treaty between the United States and Canada, but was unsuccessful in his efforts. Mr. Brown was now a prominent member of the Canadian Senate.
