Description

The caricature was first published in Bengough's magazine 'Grip'. He states in the publication, "A Caricature History of Canadian Politics: Events from the Union of 1841": The presence of a large surplus in the Treasury encouraged the Government to launch out into many expensive enterprises, and to be more lavish than ever in the bestowing of subsidies upon railways in the various Provinces.
