Dearest Enemy
Written in 1925 by musical duo Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Dearest Enemy, was a moderately successful Broadway production based on American history.
The show is about how Mary Lindley Murray detained British troops in Manhattan long enough so that the 4,000 American soldiers could reassemble in Washington Heights and form a counterattack. The show focuses on the morals of traditional colonial women as they enchanted the British soldiers (Wikipedia, Dearest Enemy).
Following the success of Dearest Enemy, the duo went on to write other popular musicals such as Peggy-Ann and The Girlfriend. Their productions became staples of the American Broadway culture.
