Madame Sherry
This particular musical comedy is a bit different then the others. It was called a three act French Vaudeville instead of a musical comedy. “Vaudeville” is a type of musical comedy that had three separate acts which were grouped together on a common bill but unrelated. It originated in France but was made popular in the United States and in Canada during 1880s-1930s (Wikipedia, Vaudville).
The most widely talked about aspect of the production was the dancing. “Every Little Movement” was dominated by polka, the “polka français” to be exact and the cast was said to have “exquisite footwork” (Martin, Norton, Bordman, 305).
Madame Sherry premiered August 30, 1910 in New Amsterdam. It ran until the spring and then toured and was massively successfully in every city it visited
