Description
Shape: pedestal foot in two degrees; surface of plate is concave, inclining towards a depression in the centre, surrounded by a groove; the center of the depression is raised; the lip turns out prominently. Fabric colour is beige. The plate depicts three fish: one torpedo fish and two perch; a band of wave pattern adorns the overhanging edge. The plate is decorated in the red figure style and technique: gills, eyes and stripes on heads of fish, and spots of torpedo fish are rendered in black glaze; contours of fish and eyes of fish, details of the dorsal fins, gills and barbels of the perch are rendered in white over-paint; the bodies of the fish are rendered in reserve. The underside of the plate and the interior of the foot are decorated with cursorily rendered streaky concentric bands of dilute glaze.
