Description

Marble statue of the Roman god Silvanus. The torso is rectangular in shape with sculpted details of the chest, abdomen, biceps, and genitalia. The strong hip line separates the abdomen from the thighs and indicates a contrapposto pose. A cloak covers the back of the figure and connects near the neckline with a laurel motif. There are various agricultural objects that would have been held against the torse by the right arm. The rear of the statue is considerably flat with less detail, as the torso is covered by the cloak, however, some draping is visible.
