Description

This funerary stele depicts a female figure supporting a small child, possibly a girl, on a draped bed. The child is toward the middle of the image, sitting on or beside the woman. The bed has two supporting legs which are visible, which have decorative markings, and the draping of the bed is visible through a series of curved lines drawn underneath the bed. The stele has a Latin inscription along the bottom which has been translated as: “Antonia, daughter of Alipius, farewell.” The engraved image is set deeper into the stone, with an arch formed above it.
