About Daniel Misses Someone

Daniel misses Grandpere because he lives so far away! What can he do to cope with this feeling? Follow Daniel as he discovers there are tons of things to do to feel better about missing Grandpere.

Why this book?

Navigating emotions is very difficult for young children. The feeling that comes with missing someone we love is no exception. It is crucial we expose our young readers to content that deals with challenging things as such. Daniel Misses Someone would be a fantastic addition to the Children’s and YA Literature course. This book may appear simple but sparks several opportunities for discussion and further reflection through its Windows and Mirrors.

Opening Windows, Uncovering Mirrors and Exploring the World Behind the Doors.

Through the window of this book, readers can come to understand that there is no one way in which young people cope with difficult emotions. This book shares the experiences of Daniel the Tiger. Young minds, regardless of their gender, race, or sexuality, can see themselves in the mirrors of the story because the protagonist is a non-human character. As Bishop says, "These windows are also sliding doors, and readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created or recreated by the author" (1). The Windows and Mirrors in Daniel Misses Someone opens the doors to an academic playground of limitless conversations and ideas.
