Othello (Blake) and Iago (Brown)
In 1880, Blake was elected as the leader of the liberal party. He and Gordon Brown, the editor of the ‘Globe’ magazine, did not think highly of one another. Despite the public knowledge of their mutual disdain, they reserved their criticisms. Their representations as Othello and Iago appropriately suggests the outward political front of friendship these two maintained while Brown could undermine Blake at any moment through his magazine. The caption capture’s Blake’s suspicion towards Brown, as expressed by Othello towards Iago upon a hollow expression of love.
