Stratford Room
Located in the Special Archives Room (039) of Morrisset Library, the 'Stratford Room' celebrates the Stratford Festival's rich history and role in bringing Shakespeare to Canadians.
The Festival has a long tradition dating back to the 1950s when it started with humble beginnings under a canvas tent. It is now the largest repertory theatre in North America and is a world-renowned four-venue festival.
The items in this room display some of the Festival’s rich history of performance including its photos, costume designs, costumes, and props. Among the rare objects is the sword used by actor Alec Guinness who played Richard III in the first production of that play in 1953.
